Marriage Procedure Of Jharkhand

How is marriage performed in Jharkhand?

  • Ritual of Paricchavan: The mother of the groom does the aarti, or Paricchavan, on the day of the Jharkhand wedding. The entire ceremony is performed prior to the Baratis departing for the nuptials. In addition to applying tilak to the groom's forehead during aarti, the mother also offers prayers for the couple's joyful marriage and a trouble-free wedding.
  • Prasthaan Baraat: The groom and his family depart for the wedding location at Baraat Prasthan. The groom's vehicle is beautifully floral-decorated. The rest of the groom's family and relatives follow the automobile with him and his younger brother in the driver's seat. The bride's parents and relatives welcome the Baraat with garlands as soon as they arrive at the location.
  • Galsedi and Jaimala: At the mandap, the bride and groom engage in a custom known as jaimala, which involves exchanging garlands. Following the exchange of garlands, a Galsedi ritual is performed by the bride's mother and other married ladies. The women burn the betel leaves to ashes by heating them in a light. The groom's face is then covered in this ash. After that, the groom gets thrown cow dung behind him. This is carried out sequentially.
  • Kanyadaan and Kangnabandhana: The pujari overseeing the wedding performs this rite, which involves tying bracelets on the bride and groom's right hands. Cotton thread, mango leaves, colorful rice, haldi, and cash are used to make these bracelets. At the mandap, a barber trims the couple's fingernails and toenails. Following this ritual, the bride is given to the groom by her parents at Kanyadaan.
  • Puja Kuldevta & Pheras: In this practice, the bride's father-in-law and the elder brother, or bhaisur, of her husband present her with lehengas, jewelry, and saris. During this ritual, the family's jewelry is given to the bride. Following this, the couple offers prayers at the altar to Kuldevta, the family god. Around the sacred fire, pheras are performed. The fire is used to roast rice with husk.
