Marriage Procedure in Manipur
There are two types of marriages in India. The one which is done in the traditional way. In this, all the traditions of a family related to marriage are performed. Hejiapot: The groom’s family brings gifts and food for the bride’s house in the official engagement. They also bring rings for both sides. In this ceremony, only the elders of the family take part. After the completion of the ceremony, the priest decides the wedding date.
Bor Baton and Leilenga: In this ceremony, the bride’s brother gives to the groom the special garland called Pana Kwa, which is made up of betal leaves, betal nuts, and banana leaves. At the same time, the different ceremony called Leilenga is performed at the bride’s house.
Luhongba: At the wedding day, the three elder women of the bride’s side welcome the groom’s family. In the mandap, the groom first sits for prayers, and then the bride comes.
For the court marriage, the groom should be 21 years and above at least and the bride should be 18 years and above. This is the legal marriage age irrespective of the state in India.
Neither party should be already married. In the Hindu marriage act, the party who is already married cannot perform the second marriage. If one of the parties is divorced or his/her previous spouse is deceased then they can enter into second marriage.
Both parties should be sound minds. The parties should also enter into a court marriage of their free will. There should be no amount of pressure upon them to perform court marriage.
The parties should also not fall under any prohibited relationship.
Procedure of Court Marriage in Manipur

If no objections are received, the parties can solemnize their marriage in the presence of the marriage registrar. There should be three witnesses who are witnessing the marriage.
After the solemnization of the marriage, the registrar will enter the details in the register and issue the marriage certificate. This certificate is the proof of legal marriage between the parties.
Marriage Registration Procedure in the Manipur
After the solemnization of marriage, the couple should apply for a marriage certificate by submitting the application to the same marriage registrar who performed their marriage.
The essential documents need to be submitted along with the application form.
After this, the registrar will verify all the necessary documents to check the validity of the marriage.
If all the documents are up to date, then the registrar will issue a marriage certificate to the parties.
